popHealth at HIMSS12 Conference
popHealth, one of the most successful open source apps in the healthcare IT field will be making a series of presentations at the HIMSS conference in Las Vegas.
popHealth is an open source software tool that facilitates the automated reporting of health quality measures. It is integrated with a healthcare provider's electronic health record (EHR) system to produce summary quality measures on the provider's patient population. Interestingly enough, popHealth can also be used as a stand-alone open source EHR and has been certified under the meaningful use criteria.
Open Health News recent published an article on the popHealth story that reviews the background to the project and its successes. The presentations at the HIMSS conference present a golden opportunity to learn about tool in depth. There are presentations for providers and vendors, as well as hands on demos at the HIMSS Interoperabilty Showcase. Key members of the popHealth team will be present during the sessions.
It is expected that the popHealth team will provide details of the major updates coming to popHealth. At present supports the electronic specifications for the 44 Stage 1 clinical quality measures. The project plans to encode Stage 2 clinical quality measure specifications in the next popHealth release in 2012. Additional plans for popHealth will be discuss by the team.
Here is the schedule for the popHealth presentations at HIMSS:

popHealth is an ONC-sponsored, open-source reference implementation for clinical quality measure reporting in support of the meaningful use of health IT. In this demonstration, patient data from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is used to calculate clinical quality measure reports in popHealth using the C32XML continuity of care records. Those results are compared to clinical quality measure reports produced by the Massachusetts E-Health Collaborative’ s Quality Data Center using the same set of C32 records. This demonstration highlights the use of continuity of care records for clinical quality measure reporting and compares results from similar reporting systems.
