Contract to Promote Federal Efforts to Foster Interoperability, Data Quality and Transparency in Health IT

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - Oct 13, 2015) - Apprio Inc., a leading provider of specialized technology solutions, particularly for the health, defense and homeland security markets, today announced it received a contract from the Federal Health Architecture (FHA) to support the Federal Health Information Model (FHIM) for up to a maximum of five years and totaling $3.4 million. The purpose of the FHIM is to support interoperability requirements for FHA's federal partners by serving as a logical information model that identifies common data for the enhanced collection, sharing and use of critical information between federal agencies and private sector healthcare organizations.

"Creating a cohesive federal health environment requires a great deal of planning and consensus," said Bobbie Peterson, Executive Vice President, Health Solutions for Apprio. "Apprio has had the pleasure of supporting broad federal collaboration through FHA for the last year, and it's clear that the FHIM will play a critical role in ensuring federal investments in health IT will align with a national strategy for interoperability. All federal systems must be able to share data securely with each other and with the private sector. That will be the only way for the country to make it possible for health data to follow a patient."

The purpose of the new Apprio contract is to help to build out the enterprise architecture for federal healthcare by completing domains of the FHIM. Apprio will produce freely available, harmonized information models that are integrated with open source model-driven health tools (MDHT). The FHIM will leverage the Health Level Seven (HL7) Reference Information Model (RIM).

FHA is an E-Gov initiative managed by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC). Through FHA, more than 20 federal agencies are working together to build common enterprise information models in order to foster interoperability, data quality and transparency among their health IT environments. These common models will feed each agency's mandated data reference model as part of its overall Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) strategy, which ultimately will allow them all to work together more seamlessly as well as to interoperate with private sector health IT systems.
