Fewer Than Half of Apps are Cloud Candidates, Study Says

Never again let it be said that healthcare IT shops are behind the technological times – at least not when it comes to cloud computing. A new study published by CDW lists healthcare among the top three cloud computing adopters, trailing large businesses and higher education.

Higher-education and healthcare’s status as cloud walkers might explain why Norwich University recently released a study about cloud preferences among both groups. Turns out government agencies are eyeing hybrid clouds for the next five years and beyond, but nearly all of them lack any kind of exit strategy.

Since CDW found that the top cloud applications are e-mail, file storage, Web and video conferencing and online learning services, healthcare organizations would be wise to consider how to get that data back just in case they need to switch cloud providers or bring those programs in-house.
