Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce its 8th Annual Open Source Summit: Open SaaS - Open Source in the Cloud from Tuesday, July 9 through Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, just north of Washington, D.C. This year's two-day Summit will showcase leading-edge, open source initiatives and highlight the increasing level of public-private partnership in major programs and agencies. Open source software has become key to both implementation and interoperability as more and more programs opt for cloud-based solutions and software-as-a-service delivery models. This Summit will address ways to optimize open source utilization and community involvement in this new playing field.

OSEHRA Adopts New Membership Structure

At the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA), we have always been committed to the needs and desires of the open source community.  Over the years we have embraced community input by improving our website, our events, and our services.  Recently, we made another improvement--as of November 1, OSEHRA has a new dues structure for membership. We have adopted this new structure based upon requests from our community to transition from a revenue-based system to a benefits-based system of choice.

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that registration for its 2017 Open Source Summit: Succeeding with the New Federal Open Source Policy, to be held June 13-15 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, is now available.  DSS, Inc., a leading health IT corporation and active participant in the OSEHRA community, will be returning as Conference Sponsor. “Our Summit continues to be a unique community forum for open source activities, and a great example of public-private partnership,” said Seong K. OSEHRA Awarded VA Open Source Technical Support Contract

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the Open Source Technical Support and Working Group Services for VA VistA Contract by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The contract scope includes identifying and analyzing available open source software that fulfills VA requirements or enhances functionality, as well as support for Technical Working Groups through which VA can collaborate with the open source community.

OSEHRA Calls for Comments to VA Open Source Policy

Just got an email from Kris Prendergast, community organizer for the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) calling on the community to provide input to the open source strategy for the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The VA, which developed the VistA EHR, widely recognized as the world's best hospital-based EHR, is seeking comments to their next generation IT contract. They are specifically requesting comments and suggestions to their open source strategy. This strategy will be discussed in great detail at the OSEHRA conference next week. Read More »

OSEHRA Community Undertakes Long-Elusive Alignment of VistA Code Base

The first Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) VistA Code Alignment Workshop was held in Oakland, California, November 19-21, 2014. An unprecedented effort, the workshop brought together 27 principal developers of VistA from government and private organizations dedicated to open source solutions for the challenges facing healthcare. The primary objective of the workshop was to achieve compatibility among contributed code within the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), the EHR software used at approximately 2,500 facilities worldwide. “A VistA code base with a common community-aligned platform will allow an unimpeded exchange of innovations and reduce duplicitous developments among users and developers,” said Dr. Seong K. OSEHRA Proposes Visionary Open Digital Health Platform for the VA

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) recently released a Request for Information (RFI) calling for advice on how to build an open, "interoperable digital health platform." The RFI received 40 responses. Only one of those was publicly released, the one from OSEHRA. That the open source EHR organization was the only one that has been open in their submissions, by itself, tells a story. There are some in the VA proposing replacing the open source VistA EHR with a "Commercial" lock-in product. Proprietary EHR vendors are circling the VA like sharks smelling blood in the water, and they don't want the public to know what they are up to...The OSEHRA response below. OSEHRA Releases Major Upgrade to popHealth with version 4.0

OSEHRA is excited to announce the release of v4.0 of popHealth®. This is the first major release since v3.0 was transitioned to the OSEHRA popHealth community in 2014. OSEHRA Releases popHealth v6.0

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA)...is pleased to announce the release of Version 6.0 of the popHealth open source clinical quality measure database and reporting engine. This new release is certified for the 2015 Edition Health IT Module certification for Clinical Quality Measure (CQM) reporting criteria...This release is the culmination of collective efforts by members of the OSEHRA popHealth Steering Work Group and the Developer Open Source Project Group. In particular, the Alabama Medicaid Agency provided all of development resources to achieve the certification for the 2019 performance period. Organizational Members Medsphere, Oroville Hospital, and Zato Health collaborated with other organizations in the community to provide expert advice and testing support.
