Some of the key themes running through the news this week involved:  (1) Startup of the 'open' Health Insurance Exchanges (HIX) in the U.S. as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, moves into the next stage of nationwide implementation; and (2) Major IT companies embracing open source are competing much more effectively in the 21st century marketplace, e.g. Intel, Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Red Hat, etc.; and (3) Lots of continuing talk about VistA and other open source EHR systems.
