The Open Source Electronic Health Records Agent (OSEHRA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating innovation in electronic health record software, announces that registration is open for its 2nd Annual Open Source EHR Summit & Workshop. OSEHRA’s goal is to drive rapid innovation in electronic health records and health IT through an Open Source software process involving the community of software developers, clinicians, business leaders and other practitioners. The Open Source electronic health record (EHR) enterprise is gaining tremendous momentum in the private and public sectors; and the number of private company contributors participating in the Open Source EHR endeavor is growing steadily.

OSEHRA Community Responds to the Federal Government's Proposed Open Source Policy
The OSEHRA community today submitted a response to the "Draft Open Source Policy for Federal Agencies" released by the White House on March 10. The policy was open for comments through today. This is a major milestone for the OSEHRA community as well as the open source community as a whole. Currently the US Government spends nearly a hundred billion dollars a year on software purchased from the private sector or procured from government contractors. Most of this software acquisition ends up in failure. President Barack Obama has made it a priority to shift technology acquisition policies to solve this problem and restore technology innovation by embracing open source.

OSEHRA 2013 Open Source Summit
The 2nd Annual OSEHRA Summit & Workshop will be held September 4-6, 2013, in N. Bethesda, Maryland. OSEHRA Summit 2013 will include pre-conference tutorials on Open Source Software and Agile Software development concepts, technology and certification practices, followed by two days of Plenary Sessions and Educational Workshops keynoted by industry, academic and governmental leaders.
