The Need for Indoor Plumbing
when developing software through large-scale research programs, the current process is relatively ineffective and wasteful. Rather than creating usable tools for scientists and engineers, often what is created are shiny toys with little practical use. Instead, as one of our collaborators Russ Taylor at UNC so aptly put it, we could use a lot more basic "indoor plumbing" to complement our bleeding-edge zero-G toilets with the latest bells and whistles. The New 'Open Imaging' Lung Cancer Research Site Goes Live
Give A Scan is the world's first people-powered, publicly available archive of images and clinical data on lung cancer patients and those at risk for the disease. All of the images and data have been donated by people who have been diagnosed and undergone treatment or screened in order to encourage more researchers to focus on lung cancer and to accelerate progress in the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of this leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. The Visible Patient
Kitware is pleased to take part in the Visible Patient project, which provides an open-access virtual reality experience for users worldwide. The project is led by the Research Institute against Digestive Cancer (IRCAD) in Strasbourg, France and Kitware assisted through the development and release of three 3D mobile viewing applications for web, Android, and iPhone users.

OSEHRA 2013 Open Source Summit

28th VistA Community Meeting

Sixth Hackathon On Rare Diseases - SUNY Albany April 12th
The Sixth Hackathon for Rare Diseases will take place on Saturday April 12th at the State University of New York at Albany. This is a follow up of the Fifth Hackathon for Rare Diseases that took place on February 22nd. The goal of the Hackathon is to continue implementing the prototype of a web-based platform for facilitating the information management of members of the Rare Diseases community. A first pass at the prototype is currently available here in Github, under the Apache 2.0 License.
