CSIR Launches Private Company

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), of India, in a long awaited move to commercialize its innovations and research skills launched its private company, CSIR-Tech, in Pune, India on May 2, 2011.

One of the main objective of this company is to work hand-in-hand with CSIR labs across the nation, identify possible break-through innovations and transform them into start-up enterprises. The core activities of the company include opportunity identification, technology de-risking, business planning and raising finances, technology marketing and others.

Currently, Dr Vijay Kelkar, an eminent economist and Padma Vibhushan awardee, chairs the board of CSIR-Tech. Other members of the board include Dr Saurabh Srivastava, one of India's most reputed IT industry leaders; Dr S Sivaram, a person well-known for institution building and management of innovation in publicly funded organizations; Mr Luis Miranda, chairman of one of India's largest private equity manager and Dr V Premnath, founding director of Venture Center, a technology business incubator on NCL campus.
