OSEHRA 2014 Announces Speakers for Open Source Summit

OSEHRA is excited to announce the confirmed speakers for the Opening Session of the 2014 Open Source Summit: Global Collaboration in Health IT! Keynote speakers for the 3rd Annual Summit, to be held September 3-5 at the Bethesda, Maryland North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, include:

  • Jim Whitehurst: President and Chief Executive Officer of Red Hat, Inc.
  • Doug Fridsma, M.D., Ph.D.: Chief Science Officer and Director of the Office of Science and Technology in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
  • Dan Morhaim, M.D.: Maryland House of Delegates, District 11
  • Stephen W. Warren: Executive in Charge, Office of Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

“We are honored to have these key leaders share their perspectives and passions with the attendees of the 2014 Open Source Summit,” said Dr. Seong K. Mun, President of OSEHRA.  “They are certain to initiate an exciting focus on innovation while engaging the best minds within the open source community.”

Confirmations from additional plenary speakers are forthcoming.  More than 500 developers, executives, researchers, policy-makers, clinicians, and end-users from around the world are expected to participate in the three-day summit.  Summit attendees will gain expertise in government and private sector open source operations, electronic health record (EHR) development, domestic and international market opportunities, and collaboration in state-of-the-art solutions.  Additionally, OSEHRA is coordinating with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) leadership to offer a special, focused session featuring VistA Evolution and the latest innovations from within VA on the final day of the 2014 Summit.

This forum will also provide a platform for community leaders to showcase their findings and share their experiences in open source during the breakout sessions.  For the first time, OSEHRA is holding the Academic Abstract Competition, with the winning work of one exceptional undergraduate or graduate student to be presented at the Summit, preparing the next generation of the open source community.       

Early Bird Registration for the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit is available until June 30, and the Call for Abstracts is open until June 7.  The conference is being sponsored by DSS, Inc., the Conference Sponsor, as well as InterSystems Corporation, the MITRE Corporation, and FIS GT.MSponsorship and Exhibitor opportunities are still available.
