Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA)

The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) within the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) was established in 1992 and directed by Congress to target effectively substance abuse and mental health services to the people most in need and to translate research in these areas more effectively and more rapidly into the general health care system. Over the years SAMHSA has demonstrated that - prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover from mental and substance use disorders.

The SAMSHA web site contains links to a number of public health information technology (IT) tools and data sets, e.g. Drug Abause Warning Network (DAWN0, Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), Drug & Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS).
