Veterans Health Administration CIO Craig Luigart Honored with Mendenhall Leadership Award at 21st Annual Executive Leadership Conference
The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) awarded Craig Luigart, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Veterans Heath Administration (VHA), with the prestigious Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award for his significant contributions to the federal information technology (IT) community. Luigart joined six of his peers, all of whom were recognized for their demonstrated leadership and commitment to public service at an Executive Leadership Conference (ELC) banquet.
The Janice K. Mendenhall Spirit of Leadership Award, which commemorates the life of Janice Mendenhall, a life-long government civil servant, is the highest honor bestowed by ACT-IAC to a member of the government IT community. Department of Veteran Affairs CIO Roger Baker presented Luigart with Mendenhall award for his pioneering efforts in improving government through the adoption of IT, his mentoring capabilities, and his leadership in strengthening government and industry collaboration. Luigart was joined on stage with past Mendenhall winners Deirdre Murray, Bob Woods, Ellen Glover and Howard Ady.
Mary Davie, ACT President, presented the ACT President’s Award to Martha Przysucha, Associate Director at the General Services Administration’s (GSA) Office of Governmentwide Policy, for her demonstrated commitment to encourage public-private collaboration and cooperation. Jim Obendorfer of IBM and Anne Armstrong, President of 1105 Government Information Group, were recognized with the IAC Chair’s Award for their significant contributions to ACT-IAC over the years.
The award committee chose Dr. Rick Holgate, CIO for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as Government Contributor of Year for his leadership in addressing emerging technologies issues—such as mobile computing—within his agency and ACT-IAC’s Advanced Mobility Working Group. Anne Reed, Chief Executive Officer of ASI Government and Chair of IAC’s Financial Management Working Group, was presented with the Industry Contributor of the Year award. Her working group provided the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) with a report outlining recommendations for improving the sustainability of financial information systems in government agencies.
Michael Donovan of HP was recognized as ACT-IAC’s Rookie of the Year for his leadership in the Cloud Computing Cross Shared Interest Group (SIG). Donovan contributed significantly to the development of an ACT-IAC white paper, which provided an industry perspective on the security risks and challenges to cloud computing in the federal government.
“It is a great honor and privilege to recognize this highly decorated group of government and industry leaders, as well as their contributions to the federal IT community,” said Jim Beaupre, IAC Chair. “This elite group of individuals embodies the leadership qualities needed to strengthen government and industry collaboration for the improvement of citizen services.”
