What is "Project Hilleman"? The technical answer is:

Project Hilleman is meaningful web services for refactoring VistA. The core principles are:

  1. Decoupling the business rules from the data.
  2. Performance.
  3. Easy-to-follow strategies and design patterns for refactoring legacy VistA code.

The more interesting (and provocative) reply is that we at Bitscopic believe the VistA status quo isn't working and hasn't been for a while. Google "Congress VA VistA." It isn't hard to find evidence that many of our elected officials see VistA as a relic and are setting the stage for its replacement. It's happening no matter how much the VistA Community wants to believe otherwise.

Joel MewtonThe VistA Community (and VA in particular) has a decision to make: will VistA remain at the forefront of electronic healthcare technology or will it be replaced with a commercial offering? If VistA is to remain relevant then that means taking a hard look at what works, what doesn't, and where it should be. VistA needs to move away from it's antiquated technology choices and embrace more modern toolsets and ideologies. Project Hilleman is Bitscopic's attempt at applying industry best-practices to legacy VistA in an evolutionary way. We have several products in production environments today -- Praedico, Hilleman, BDaP -- that prove our alternative approaches can be highly successful.  We hope the community and VA will engage in this work and set the stage for success on the most pressing issues of today.
