OpenMRS and the Kenya Health Informatics Association Issue Invitation to Implementers Conference in Kenya

OpenMRS and the Kenya Health Informatics Association have issued an invitation to the OpenMRS Implementers Conference in Kenya. The conference will take place from December 4th to the 8th in Nairobi, Kenya. The invitation was issued by Paul Biondich, the Executive Director of OpenMRS, and Steven Wanyee, Executive Secretary General, of the Kenya Health Informatics Association (KeHIA). The OpenMRS conference will be held back to back with the HELINA scientific conference which begins on December 3rd. This is the 12th OpenMRS Implementers’ conference, the 6th in Africa and the 2nd to be held in Kenya. OpenMRS Implementers’ Conferences are a way to bring health care professionals and OpenMRS implementers together to collaborate, share implementation experiences and discover new ways to improve OpenMRS. INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE AT THE 2018 OPENMRS IMPLEMENTERS’ CONFERENCE, 4TH TO 8TH DECEMBER 2018, NAIROBI KENYA.

The Ministry of Health in Kenya in collaboration with Kenya Health Informatics Association (KeHIA) and the OpenMRS community would like to invite you to attend the OpenMRS International Implementers’ Conference to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, 4th to 8th December 2018. The conference will be held back to back with the HELINA scientific conference commencing on 3rd and ending on 5th Dec 2018. OpenMRS will start on 4th Dec with the main conference which will be followed by a two day Hackathon from 7th to 8th December, 2018. As is tradition, site visits to MOH health facilities using OpenMRS will be included.

This is the 12th OpenMRS Implementers’ conference, the 6th in Africa and the 2nd to be held in Kenya. OpenMRS Implementers’ Conferences are a way to bring health care professionals and OpenMRS implementers together to collaborate, share implementation experiences and discover new ways to improve OpenMRS.

The 2018 Conference Program is expected to be thought provoking and dynamic with conventional conference, “unconferencing” session styles and site visits. Keynote speeches reflecting a more practical approach to implementing electronic medical records systems will be made by key local and global health informatics contributors. The MOH is pleased to note that the OpenMRS 2018 conference theme, “OpenMRS powering decisions towards the achievement of Universal Health Coverage” is consistent with the local health priority captured under the Big 4 Agenda". The objectives are as outlined below:

Objectives

  1. The role of OpenMRS in advancing financial inclusion at the point of service
  2. Using OpenMRS to strengthen primary health care, maternal and child health, prevention water borne, vector borne, NCDs (particularly diabetes and hypertension), and communicable diseases (STIs, HIV, TB) diseases within a continuity of care model linked to Continuous Quality Improvement.
  3. OpenMRS leading the way in enhancing the efficacy, effectiveness and Return on Investment of digital health by operationalizing the Principles For Digital Development
