Lausanne – Frontiers, one of the largest and fastest-growing open-access scholarly publishers, now part of the Nature Publishing Group family, will launch its Frontiers in Energy Research journal today. In Frontiers in Energy Research, scientists from around the world join together to examine how new energy systems can be integrated in the economic and social fabric of our world.

Frontiers in Energy Research will serve as a free-to-access point of reference for all scientists and engineers interested in staying up to date on energy issues. Topics that will be covered range from energy nanotechnology solutions to energy policies, including energy-efficient building and the energy-water nexus.

Storage and distribution, including the impact of energy systems on all sectors of society, especially on the world's developing regions will also be studied in depth and provide strong input for scientists and policy makers.

"We must cultivate a culture of scientific excellence…that goes directly to the needs and the expectations of society. Science enlarges one's horizons and is the greatest intellectual achievement of humankind ever. But all that is for naught, if we can't improve our methods of communication", says Prof. Ugo Bardi, one of the Editors-in-Chief of Frontiers in Energy Research and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Florence, Italy.

Frontiers in Energy Research will provide an open-science and interactive web platform for the research community to publish high-quality and rigorously peer-reviewed articles. Frontiers' real-time and interactive peer review enables fast, transparent and constructive review of a range of article types. With an average of eighty-four days from submission to final decision for a paper, articles are published quickly, under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, and are available for free.

The initial specialty sections open for submissions are listed below and many more sections will complement this list soon:

Energy Systems and Policy (Editor-in-Chief: Ugo Bardi)
Solar Energy (Editors-in-Chief: Philip A. Parilla and David S. Ginley)
Fuel Cells (Editor-in-Chief: Fernando Marques
