ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Greenway® is joining more than two dozen healthcare organizations representing providers, retail health, health information exchanges, health information technology, payers and other multi-platform networks in founding and supporting roles of Carequality (“care-e-quality”) during its launch at the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society Annual Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS14) in Orlando.
Designed as an expansive and unifying inter-network initiative to bridge new and existing exchange programs around standards and simplified interoperability, Carequality is being convened by the public-private interoperability consortium Healtheway, which administers the national eHealth Exchange. Last fall, Greenway became the first ambulatory health IT provider to join Healtheway.
At HIMSS13, Greenway joined other industry leaders in announcing the new CommonWell Health Alliance. Both organizations seek streamlined and coordinated patient care through advanced interoperability.
‘Making Nationwide Health IT Interoperability a Reality’
“We launched Carequality as an industry-driven effort to build on the innovative health IT interoperability work already in progress throughout the country,” said Healtheway Executive Director Mariann Yeager. “Greenway joined Carequality as one of our founding members, while also actively participating in CommonWell. I consider this to be significant for a couple of reasons. First, it illustrates Greenway’s continual commitment to and leadership in nationwide health IT efforts. Second, it highlights the complementary nature of what we’re working to achieve through Carequality with ongoing national efforts such as CommonWell.
“Greenway demonstrates daily the commitment needed to move beyond any remaining hurdles to make nationwide health IT interoperability a reality,” she added.
Rich Steinle, CEO of Greenway customer Premier Family Physicians of Austin, TX, noted that “As a growing family practice committed to health IT, we have formed a medical village approach to patient care combining primary and specialty medicine teams and clinical support staff, intent on sharing quality data as a foundation. Data exchange is a challenge, and we want to expand our data network to HIEs, hospitals and even long-term care. The Carequality approach is one we fully support toward offering providers a nationally driven consensus and implementation model.”
Improving Care Coordination and Outcomes
“Greenway is proud to be a founding member of Carequality to further our dedication to collaboration on an interoperable national health IT infrastructure and standards that support improved care coordination and outcomes,” said Vice President of Industry and Government Affairs Justin T. Barnes. “As a board member of the CommonWell Health Alliance, I see the opportunity to align our successful connectivity frameworks to enable valuable, widespread healthcare interoperability,” added Barnes, who also holds leadership positions with IHE-USA, the EHR Association and HIMSS.
“This initiative bringing together exchange networks and implementation expertise are key steps of data liquidity’s role in improving population health, containing costs and offering care providers simple and usable solutions that will benefit the healthcare consumers they serve,” Barnes continued.
Additional Interoperability Gains at HIMSS14
Also at HIMSS, Greenway is participating in a collaborative patient records locator demonstration among 10 organizations utilizing query and retrieve capability and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) protocols at the Interoperability Showcase.
And in Greenway booth 2503, the company is demonstrating Direct exchange in live settings between the company’s PrimeSUITE®, Intergy™ and SuccessEHS data platforms.
Greenway leadership will also appear with other CommonWell founding members to provide an update on the successes to date of a pilot program of cross-platform data exchange that includes participation by Greenway customer sites.
