Midland Memorial Hospital Wins CIO 100 Award
Texas Hospital Recognized by CIO Magazine for Using OpenVista Electronic Health Record in Transformation to Secure, Paper-lite Facility
Medsphere Systems Corporation, the leading provider of open source electronic health records, today announced that partner Midland Memorial Hospital is a recipient of the 2009 CIO 100 Award for its successful implementation of Medsphere's OpenVista electronic health record (EHR) solution. The 22nd annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.
Since implementing OpenVista, Midland Memorial, a 320-bed hospital serving residents of west Texas and eastern New Mexico, has realized a host of improved clinical results, including fewer patient deaths and medication errors and decreased infection rates, an independent case study confirms. With OpenVista, almost 100 percent of physicians at Midland Memorial now enter orders electronically; Midland staff can access comprehensive patient records instantaneously, and clinicians can access the same data remotely and securely.

The CIO 100 Award is only the most recent in a string of accolades Midland Memorial Hospital has received for its implementation of OpenVista. In 2008, the hospital was designated one of only thirteen Stage 6 facilities by the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics organization, recognizing hospitals that have achieved a high level of automated patient care. In the same year, Midland Memorial was also named a Top 100 Hospital by the Thomson organization and one of America's Best Hospitals by US News and World Report. In May of this year, the hospital was the only healthcare finalist of an American Business Award (aka: Stevie Award) for excellence in the workplace.

The 2009 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, Colo., on August 25, 2009, at the conclusion of the eleventh annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony.
