Red Hat Helps Intermountain Healthcare Migrate to an Open Source Infrastructure
Healthcare system replaces proprietary legacy solutions with modern, open source infrastructure
RALEIGH, N.C. —August 24, 2017— Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Intermountain Healthcare is using Red Hat solutions to help the company transform its existing infrastructure by migrating services from a proprietary platform to an open source Red Hat stack. By implementing Red Hat platforms, Intermountain Healthcare is moving towards a more streamlined and modern IT environment offering enterprise-wide IT automation and on-demand services, enabling them to do more while decreasing complexity.
As we look to the future, it was imperative that we be able to bring IT automation to all aspects of our business, and that our infrastructure was flexible enough to do so. After many considerations, an open source environment (such as Red Hat) was the best option to support our needs, and help streamline operations and reduce costs. Bret Lawson director, Infrastructure & Operations, Intermountain Healthcare
A not-for-profit health system, Intermountain Healthcare provides a broad range of services throughout Utah and southeastern Idaho. Based in Salt Lake City, the organization is comprised of 22 hospitals and nearly 1,500 primary and secondary care physicians at more than 180 clinics within the Intermountain Medical Group. Connecting this extensive network of physicians, facilities and patient data is no easy feat, and Intermountain was faced with managing an increasingly complex IT environment, delaying service delivery and raising operational costs.
Rather than continue on with expensive, complex legacy tools, Intermountain’s IT team sought to transition to an open source infrastructure, which provides capabilities that not only support its existing needs, but can give them the flexibility to address future requirements without vendor lock-in.
As part of the Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure suite of integrated solutions, Intermountain implemented Red Hat Virtualization to increase scalability of their infrastructure, increase cross-platform capabilities, help increase performance, and help provide return on investment faster than equivalent proprietary solutions. A Red Hat implementation helped address Intermountain’s needs from both a cost and operational perspective, including its management of both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows environments. Red Hat Consulting assisted Intermountain nearly every step of the way, from the development of the initial proof-of-concept and the end-state architecture. Red Hat Consulting also assisted in the knowledge transfer, so Intermountain was able to take command more easily of its new, open IT environment.
