SunGard Makes Its Business Process Management Suite Available For Open Source Via The Eclipse Foundation
SunGard’s Infinity Process Platform is now available from the Eclipse Stardust project, an open source business process management (BPM) suite designed to help improve the infrastructure behind many of the finance industry’s key operations.
The Eclipse Foundation supports an open source community that aims to create a common, shared development platform for building, deploying and managing software. The Stardust BPM suite will help firms model, execute, monitor and optimize business processes to help increase automation and efficiency. An example of this is bank account management, which automation can help transform from a manual, paper intensive process into a streamlined and efficient function, benefitting both the bank and its customers.
The Stardust BPM is available under the terms of the Eclipse Public License and will help support the entire process management lifecycle, as well as integrate fully with other software and solution projects within the Eclipse Foundation. SunGard will open the knowledge pools and communities currently existing within SunGard to the wider Eclipse community to help increase understanding and promote industry best practice.
Mary Knox, research director at Gartner, said, “The need for BPM suites is well established and is a strategic investment for financial services firms. Using standard BPM methodologies and tools can support full lifecycle process design, management, monitoring and optimization across the heterogeneous array of applications found in most firms today. BPM suites can help promote a common and consistent foundation across the different communities in an enterprise.”
Mike Milinkovich, executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, said, “Stardust addresses the need for a BPM suite within Eclipse, and will be a valuable addition to the open source community. This value will be enhanced by the knowledge, experience and expertise brought to it by SunGard.”
Mats Lillienberg, chief technology officer, SunGard Financial Systems, said, “The Infinity Process Platform has been central to the development of many workflow and BPM projects across SunGard. Making Stardust an open source BPM standard within Eclipse demonstrates SunGard’s commitment to helping the finance industry improve the infrastructure on which its key operations are based.”
