VISTA Expo 2014 Moves to DC
Seattle, WA – The VISTA Expertise Network is joining forces with the Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) to collaborate in a special strategic meeting regarding the future of VISTA. VISTA is the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture, the electronic health record (EHR) system used by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Indian Health Service, and other healthcare providers around the world. This special session, entitled Future VISTA: A Technical Town Hall, will be chaired by Rick Marshall, the Network’s executive director. It will be held on the first day of the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit, September 3–5 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, just outside of Washington, D.C.
This shift is a response to three recent developments affecting the future of VISTA. First, the new 2014 Medscape EHR Report ranked VISTA’s CPRS application as the #1 EHR in terms of user satisfaction. Second, VA’s VISTA Evolution initiatives were designed and contracted before the new Medscape report, and so could not take this new information into consideration. Third, the new nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Robert McDonald, will need sound counsel about VISTA and VISTA strategy. These three developments created a need to move the Expo’s strategizing format to the East Coast this year, to guide policymakers and planners at this critical juncture.
“OSEHRA’s 2014 Open Source Summit is in the right place at the right time to bring these crucial discussions about VISTA to the right audience,” said Marshall.
Seong K. Mun, president of OSEHRA, commented, “Our summit is the perfect venue for this session. . . . VEN’s VISTA experience and capability are unsurpassed, and we are proud to have them as an OSEHRA Corporate Member.”
Registration for the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit has begun. The conference is being sponsored by DSS, Inc., the Conference Sponsor, as well as InterSystems Corporation, the MITRE Corporation, Oroville Hospital, FIS GT.M, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Kitware, Inc., and KRM Associates. Sponsorship and Exhibitor opportunities are still available.

In 2015, the VISTA Expo and Symposium will return to its full four-day format on the West Coast. Look for information about the 2015 VISTA Expo & Symposium at our website vistaexpo.net.
