DoD/VA iEHR & Government HIE Summit

The Defense Strategies Institute (DSI) recently announced a conference to be held on October 11-13 at the Sheraton Suites in Old Town Alexandria, VA. This DoD/VA iEHR and Government HIE Summit event will focus on some of the challenges involved in and solutions required for maintaining/improving the integrated electronic health record (iEHR) and government health information exchange (HIE).

Designed to attract leaders from the U.S. military, government agencies, and various industries and academia, this non partisan effort will “reach across all services and organizations to bring together a truly holistic group of decision makers and solution providers” to provide “unparalleled networking opportunities” and a forum where current challenges and practical health information technology (HIT) solutions can be intelligently discussed and debated. It also functions as an educational and training summit where participants will gain crucial insights from senior-level speakers and will have ample opportunity to interact with the faculty and offer their own insights.

A few of the key topics to be discussed are as follows:

• DoD/VA: common information interoperability framework
• Common service broker: ESB and infrastructure services
• DoD/VA mission specific applications and services for the end-user
• Federal HIE – designing and deploying federated-national HIEs
• Patient-centered medical home

Several distinguished speakers will be present at the conference, including Lt Gen Charles B. Green (USAF, Surgeon General); Dr. Paul Tibbits (SES, Deputy CIO, Office of Architecture, Strategy & Design, VA); Mr. Henry Sienkiewicz (SES, CIO, DISA); and many others.
