The panelists are experts in their field, and – of special interest to our readers – experts in the future iEHR (Integrated Electronic Health Record), a joint project spearheaded by the VA and DoD. Once a year, open source practitioners, advocates, and communities gather at OSCON to learn and connect, and consider the state of open source. It's big—the 18 tracks cover a panoply of open source technologies and themes. Roughly 400 people will be presenting—should you be one of them?

Wikipedia Co-founder Coming to Tech@State
The next Tech@State event, scheduled for July 12-13 at George Washington University, will feature a talk from Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales.
The State Department has partnered with Wikimania 2012 and will explore wikis and the public sector. It aims to provide an opportunity to learn how wikis and wiki-associated technologies are being incorporated and used to enhance collaboration in the public sector, especially in the federal government.

13th Libre Software Meeting in Geneva

Sharing international experience: Is implementing the VA's electronic health record system an option for the NHS?
This roundtable will focus on sharing international experiences of using the VistA system and considering whether or not VistA might be an effective option for the NHS. At the seminar delegates will have the opportunity to:
- Increase their understanding of VistA and its potential challenges and benefits;
- Learn from international experience of implementing VistA, including a case study from Jordan;
- Consider whether they think it is feasible and/ or desirable to encourage the use of VistA in the NHS.

NASA, State Department and Veteran Affairs Innovation Initiative Host Open Source Summit
Registration for the second Open Source Summit, hosted by NASA, the U.S. State Department and the Veteran Affairs Innovation Initiative to advance the use of open source software in government, is under way. The event will be held June 20-21 at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
The summit will convene leaders from government and industry as well as software practitioners to discuss the development, release and use of open source software, which is characterized by a collaborative development process and free user access.
Discussion topics will include the current and future state of the government open source community, how-to insights for open source projects in government, real-world projects and their successes and challenges, and government procurement of open source software.
