DSS, Inc. Appraised at CMMI Maturity Level 2 for Improved Business Quality and Processes
DSS, Inc., a leading provider of software development and support of VistA, announced today that it was appraised at Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV) Maturity Level 2 for its VistA development and services for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
CMMI is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with a point of reference for assessing existing company processes as well as guidance for improving upon those methods to achieve maximum operational performance. DSS began working with the CMMI initiative in April 2010 to achieve Maturity Level 2 with a focus on project management, requirements management, supplier agreement management, configuration management, measurement and analysis, and process and product quality.
“We offer tailored solutions for each and every implementation, which we can only provide if our business is running smoothly and efficiently. With CMMI, we are able to capitalize on various internal opportunities to achieve this goal,” said Mark Byers, president of DSS. “To be assessed at CMMI Maturity Level 2 is an achievement, emphasizing our hard work and dedication to providing the highest quality solutions and services to each of our customers.”
To achieve this rating, DSS has met the following objectives:
- Enhanced the overall business structure to be more disciplined;
- Standardized development best practices company-wide;
- Improved standards around quality assurance and work output for better overall efficiencies;
- Reduced the cost of the operation while maintaining production quantity and quality; and
- Restructured internal personnel to optimize expertise, productivity and cost of new employeess
“By reaching each of these objectives, we can pass along the cost savings and operational efficiencies to our customers as an inherent value to offerings,” adds Byers. DSS plans to continue focusing on process improvement to achieve a CMMI Maturity Level 3 rating in 2012, expanding its efforts within its Patient Account Management System (PAMS) and vxVistA product lines.
CMMI version 1.3 was released in November 2010 by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon. To learn more CMMI, visit www.sei.cmu.edu/cmmi.
