In a presentation entitled, “Moving to EMR; it’s not a matter of IF”, 'HealthIT Kenya', an innovative provider of Healthcare Information Technology (HealthIT) solutions in the African region, presented OpenEMR to members of the Kenya Medical Association during the association’s end-of-year symposium held on 9th December, 2012 in Mombasa Kenya.

OpenEMR is an ONC-ATB Ambulatory EHR 2011-2012 certified electronic health records and medical practice management application. It features fully integrated electronic health records, practice management, scheduling, eRX, and electronic billing. OpenEMR is endlessly configurable to suit the individual needs of the practice.

Highlights of the presentation included a broad introduction to the HealthIT scene, both in the USA and how Kenya being the hub of East & Central Africa internet connectivity, is on par with most developed parts of the world. This was further enhanced with statistics shown on how the youth being the biggest portion of the population, enhance the great mobile telephony and multimedia boom.

OpenEMR accolades, features and the stringent certification process of the USA ONC, along with the implementation process were also detailed and how 'HealthIT Kenya' being a local certified OpenEMR support provider, makes OpenEMR the choice of the regional healthcare industry.

'HealthIT Kenya' presented OpenEMR, an ONC certified electronic health records and medical practice management application, to members of the Kenya Medical Association in a move to promote the use of 'open source' Health IT  solutions ino the region.

While moving towards HealthIT is inevitable in today’s technology dependent world, HealthIT Kenya’s presentation included a section dedicated to the safety, security and confidentiality of medical records related to EMR. As it is a known fact that data is always at risk of loss especially to the likes of hardware failure, viruses, natural disasters, crime or even sabotage, data can and will be lost if not adequately backed up. 'HealthIT Kenya' bundles "4BAQ" (a secure remote data backup service offered by VoIP4Africa in their Pennsylvania, USA Data Center), with OpenEMR. This ensures medical data is safe and available wherever and whenever needed, while providing encryption, confidentiality and safety for all data, at every level.
