AHIMA Announces Initiative To Promote Blue Button To Members

During its annual conference on Monday, the American Health Information Management Association announced an initiative to encourage its 67,000 members and Component State Associations to adopt Blue Button technology to boost consumer access to personal health records, Health Data Management reports (Goedert, Health Data Management, 10/28).

Background on Blue Button

In 2010, the Department of Veterans Affairs launched a Blue Button tool to help veterans access and exchange their personal health data in a standard, consistent manner. Since then, other private and federal agencies have implemented the tool.
