Brandt Welker is the Chief Technology Officer at MedicaSoft where he leads the development and delivery of advanced health information technology solutions to commercial and government clients. Employing modern technology and open, standards-based architecture, Brandt designs solutions that support data interoperability, improve system integration, and increase overall patient engagement and ease of use. Brandt regularly writes on these subjects in the CTO Blog at MedicaSoft. You can also find him on Twitter @BrandtWelker.
Brandt has over 20 years of experience in IT. From healthcare innovations to enterprise architecture to systems engineering to program management and software development – he is no stranger to building, implementing, and managing large-scale systems and tackling IT challenges in very large and complex agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). During his tenure with VA, he lead healthcare innovations with the VA Center for Innovation, served as Chief Architect for Health IT in the Office of Enterprise Development, and Architect for the Veterans Benefits Management System (VBMS). At NASA, Brandt held a number of positions including Enterprise Architect for the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate and development leader for the Design and Data Management Systems program. All of that aside, he will tell you that the coolest thing he did at NASA was complete astronaut training in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab.
When he’s not working, Brandt enjoys spending time with his family on their 250-year old farm where they tend to their livestock and pets, which include 150 chickens, 3 rabbits, 3 turkeys, 2 goats, 2 dogs, and 3 cats. He can also be found tinkering with this 3-D printer, biking, fishing, or contemplating his next big idea.
