SparkFun CEO Nathan Seidle To Speak At TEDxBoulder Event

Press Release | SparkFun Electronics | September 20, 2012

SparkFun Electronics (http://www.sparkfun.com), a provider of parts, knowledge and passion for electronics creation, is proud to announce CEO Nathan Seidle will be presenting at the third annual TEDxBoulder (http://tedxboulder.com/) event on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The theme of this year's event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Macky Auditorium on CU Boulder's campus, is "Edges and Experiences." Seidle's talk will focus on what he refers to as "intellectual property obesity" - the tendency for large tech corporations to focus on protecting patents instead of promoting innovation - and the barriers it creates for an open source industry.

Seidle is a leader in the open source hardware movement and founded SparkFun Electronics in 2003. SparkFun has 135 staff members dedicated to making the world a better place by educating civilians about their technology and providing them with the tools to alter it and create their own. Seidle is an integral member of the Open Source Hardware Association (http://www.oshwa.org), assisting in the next revolution of business and society. He frequently speaks about open source ideology in the community and on the company's blog (http://www.sparkfun.com/news/858).

With more than 450 original products, SparkFun is the largest manufacturer of Open Source Hardware in the world. The company strongly believes in participating in and promoting the Open Source Hardware movement and its ever-growing catalog of Open Source products mimics these beliefs.

The flow of the TEDx event consists of two 90-minute sessions and approximately 2,000 attendees. Speakers include musicians, yoga studio owners, writers, climbers and fire behavior specialists, and presenters will discuss their interpretations of the "Edges and Experiences" theme.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Tickets are available on TEDx's event site (http://tedxboulder2012.eventbrite.com/).
