CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LiveData, Inc. today announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System in St. Louis has purchased LiveData PeriOp Manager, the company’s operational intelligence solution for the perioperative setting. LiveData and partner Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS) will fully integrate PeriOp Manager with the VA St. Louis Health Care System’s VistA (Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture) electronic health record (EHR), enabling patient information and case workflow to be viewed and managed by the whole perioperative team.

The integrated advanced patient safety solution will be installed in the perioperative area and all 10 operating rooms at the John Cochran Division of the VA St. Louis Health Care System, which serves veterans and their families in east central Missouri and southwestern Illinois. The VA St. Louis Health Care System – which includes both the John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks divisions -- was recently named one of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.

LiveData healthcare solutions combine comprehensive real-time data from hospital information systems and medical devices with surgical workflow automation. Patient information is continuously updated and displayed on large wall-mounted screens throughout the perioperative suite, providing all members of the team with clear and immediate access to critical information about the patient, procedure, and case workflow.

DSS, which specializes in healthcare IT solutions that improve quality and productivity, develops and supplies integrated enhancements to the VistA system. DSS Integration Toolkits modernize VistA by providing seamless integration of commercial-off-the-shelf solutions to help the VA deliver the best quality medical care to Veterans.

“Every day, our veterans rely on teamwork. They know about the benefit of drawing the best from each individual’s expertise,” said Dr. Michael Crittenden, Chief of Surgical Services, St. Louis VA Medical Center (John Cochran). “Through the extensibility of VistA, we can integrate new technology to improve patient safety and help meet the VA National Center for Patient Safety Directive for ensuring correct surgery.”

The system will go live early in 2014, delivering state-of-the-art operating rooms that integrate clinical processes in the OR, enhance patient safety and workflow, and provide clinical quality and efficiency metrics.

Over the past six months, several VA medical centers, including those in Miami, Orlando, Cleveland, and now St. Louis, have committed to – or upgraded their current installations to – LiveData PeriOp Manager underscoring the widespread adoption of technology that improves patient safety and OR efficiency.

LiveData PeriOp Manager integrates real-time data with workflow automation to coordinate and manage patient care throughout the perioperative suite. PeriOp Manager includes:

  • OR-Schedule Board: a real-time view of the day’s surgical cases, enabling staff to improve patient throughput.
  • PreOp Board: a single, dynamic, operational view of patient status and preoperative case workflow.
  • OR-Dashboard: an integrated display of patient data from hospital medical records and physiological devices with automated surgical workflow and patient safety information including Active Time Out, a real-time, interactive safe surgery checklist.
  • Family Waiting Board: a display enabling families to track the progress of their loved ones as they move through the surgical process.
  • Analytics: comprehensive data analysis and reporting, using big data techniques to transform real-time operational data into actionable quality, compliance, and efficiency intelligence.
