The app explosion has given healthcare consumers a new way to seek second opinions. The Sunlight Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit focused on government transparency, has unveiled a mobile app for consumers that allows them to search for information on healthcare providers, services and prescription drug options.

The “Sunlight Health” app takes information from government and non-profit institutions and divides it into three categories: Healthcare facilities, medical suppliers and prescription drugs. Available on the iPhone or Android phone, the app enables consumers to search for government ratings on hospitals and nursing homes, find and rate nearby locations offering medical supplies and compare options on prescription drugs.
