Infographic: The Impact Of Duplicate Medical Records In Healthcare
Jasmine Pennic | HIT Consultant | August 13, 2013
The rise of duplicate medical records is growing exponentially in the healthcare industry as more hospitals using EHRs share information through Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and Health Information Exchanges (HIEs). In fact, 92% of duplicate medical records are created during inpatient registration, according to a study conducted by John Hopkins Hospital.
Missing or incorrect information in duplicate medical records can causes severe injuries, illness and even death. Duplicate medical records and overlays also leads to reimbursement losses, administrative inefficiencies, resource drains, liability concerns, and perhaps most significantly, compromised care delivery and threats to patient safety.
