Here Are The 55 Colleges In America Facing Federal Sexual-Assault Investigations
The list ranges from behemoth state schools like Arizona State University to several in the Ivy League.
The Education Department publicly released Thursday a list of 55 U.S. colleges and universities currently under investigation for mishandling sexual-assault cases, a swift and unprecedented move that arrives just days after the White House pledged more transparency on the issue. The list is populated with large state schools such as Ohio State University and the University of Michigan, as well as prestigious Ivy League schools, including Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton.
"We are making this list available in an effort to bring more transparency to our enforcement work and to foster better public awareness of civil rights," Catherine Lhamon, the deparment's assistant secretary for civil rights, said in a statement. "We hope this increased transparency will spur community dialogue about this important issue." Lhamon additionally noted that a school's appearance on the list "in no way indicates at this stage that the college or university is violating or has violated [Title IX]." Going forward, the department will maintain an updated list and make it available upon request...
