The Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating innovation in electronic health record software, kicked off its First Annual Open Source EHR Summit & Workshop. The event is the culmination of a year of growth for OSEHRA, which was launched as a result of an agreement between the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense in 2011. OSEHRA's goal is to drive rapid innovation in electronic health records and health IT through an open source software process involving the community of software developers, clinicians, business leaders and other practitioners.

OSEHRA 2012: Major VistA Code Contributions Announced During Summit

The open source VistA community took a giant leap in collaboration during the recently concluded 1st Annual OSEHRA Summit and Workshop, as several of the major players announced they were contributing key enhancements to the open source community. The day before the conference, leading VistA solution providers, Medsphere and DSS announced they were contributing major VistA modules to Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA). Then, during conference presentations, AEGIS announced they were releasing a major integration and testing toolset.  And just previous to the conference, KRM Associates contributed their open source personal health record (PHR), HealtheMe, to OSEHRA.

The recent 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit: Global Collaboration in Healthcare IT, held September 3-5 in Bethesda, MD, was a huge success and clearly marks a watershed moment for open source health information technology (HIT), as well as a transformation in the way that US government agencies procure technology. Earlier this month, the 2014 OSEHRA Open Source Summit took place in Bethesda, MD, gathering global leaders in both public and private health IT to discuss the future of electronic health records (EHR) and open source initiatives in health care. OSEHRA 2015: VA Secretary Articulates Open Source Strategy as the Core of VA’s Transformation During Summit

Robert A. McDonald, Secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), articulated a clear strategy for the VA’s technology efforts based on open source, crowdsourcing and agile development during a speech at the 2015 OSEHRA Open Source Summit in Bethesda, MD yesterday. McDonald, who was the keynote speaker of the conference, gave an overview of the crisis that the VA was facing a year ago and the steps taken to address the crisis. McDonald said that his primary step was to change the focus of the discussion from problems within the VA bureaucracy to a focus of placing the customers, America's veterans and military personnel, at the center of things.

OSEHRA 2016 Summit to Address Global Open Health IT Issues as well as the Future of VistA, eHMP and the VA's Veteran's Centric Strategy

The 2016 OSEHRA Summit to be held June 27-29 is sixty days away, and we are very excited about the way it has come together...We will open the Summit on Monday afternoon with the Global Open Health Informatics Workshop. There we will hear about the progress of many programs, including those in India, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Slovenia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Roger Baker, former Assistant Secretary and Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans of Affairs...joined the OSEHRA Board of Directors. Baker, a visionary in the health IT community and long-time supporter of OSEHRA, will begin his three-year term in October. Baker was elected to the Government Directorship on the Board of Directors by the OSEHRA Community.  “It is an honor to serve in this capacity,” said Baker. “I am excited to join such a forward-thinking organization where I will continue to dedicate my efforts to the promotion and widespread adoption of open source.”
