Aurion Project is Off and Running
The Aurion Project, an evolution of the Federal Health Architecture’s CONNECT open-source project focused on achieving health IT interoperability using nationally recognized standards, is off to an ambitious start. The Aurion Project is chartered by the Alembic Foundation.

New Public-Private Community Aims to Help Build NHIN
This week, Alembic's Aurion Project will release the latest version of the CONNECT application, Aurion 4.0, and participants in the Aurion community will finalize a charter and a governance structure. In the long run, this project may have a considerable impact on the development of the NHIN.

ONC Releases "Governance Framework for Trusted Electronic Health Information Exchange"
The recently released "Governance Framework for Trusted Electronic Health Information Exchange" by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s (ONC) provides guiding principles on health information exchange (HIE) governance. The framework was developed as an alternative to the abandoned pursuit by ONC of a more formal, centralized governance structure for the U.S. Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). Read More »

Open Source HIE Software Upgraded
The Alembic Foundation, recently created to improve the federally funded CONNECT health information exchange software and release it to the open market, has completed its first major upgrade, now available for download. Multiple bugs have been fixed and additional functionality added in a new version, called Aurion 4.0.
Running NwHIN ought to be a public-private partnership
The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) believes a private-public partnership would be better to run the future Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN), rather than a federal body alone. Read More »

What's in a name - NHIN, NwHIN, HealtheWay, eHealth Exchange...
The Nationwide Health Information Network Exchange (now called the eHealth Exchange) has successfully transitioned to an independently sustainable public-private partnership. This new organization, called HealtheWay, includes four federal agencies -- CMS, the Department of Defense, the Social Security Administration and the Department of Veterans Affairs -- as well as at least 21 non-federal entities that all share patient records for episodes of care.
