INASP Launches Open Access Week Competition 2015

INASP has launched its Open Access Week Competition for 2015. The competition is open to representatives of institutions and organizations from INASP partner or network countries. Open Access Week, a global event now entering its seventh year, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to learn more about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in Open Access developments. For more information, see OpenAccessWeek.org.

This year, Open Access Week will take place from October 19 to 25th. The theme for this year’s 8th International Open Access Week will be “Open for Collaboration.” The theme highlights the ways in which collaboration both inspires and advances the Open Access movement—from the partnerships behind launching initiatives such as PLOS and ImpactStory, to the working relationships the community has established with policymakers that have delivered Open Access policies around the world.   The theme also emphasizes the ways in which Open Access enables new avenues for collaboration between scholars by making research available to any potential collaborator, anywhere, any time.

INASP, in collaboration with UNESCO is hosting a competition to provide small contributions of $500 for 10 successful applicants to help cover costs related to showcasing the activities that universities and research institutions within developing and emerging countries are planning and doing.

According to the announcement, these activities may include:

  • Creating greater understanding of Open Access or the Open Access movement
  • Increasing wider awareness and use of institutional repositories
  • Promoting and providing training in Open Access resources
  • Showcasing the open source software being used
  • Using the opportunities provided by Open Access policies to create, share and - improve access to information and electronic resources
  • Having fun with your own competitions or displays
