Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare Chooses CAV Systems for QuadraMed CPR Data Extraction
Delivers “Near Real Time” Updates to SQL Server Data Warehouse
Nov. 26, 2014 - CAESAREA, Israel -- CAV Systems Ltd, a leading Israeli software company, recently completed delivery of a custom “data extraction” solution for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota. Gillette is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in the diagnosis and treatment of children, teens and adults who have disabilities and complex medical conditions.
In the summer of 2013, Gillette embarked on an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) initiative to analyze patient data with a view to identifying statistical patterns that could point to potential improvements across the organization’s range of activities – patient care, administrative and financial. From an IT architecture standpoint, the source database and the target database were fixed. The source database was Gillette’s Hospital Information System based on the QuadraMed Computerized Patient Record system (QCPR), and the target database for the Data Warehouse was Microsoft SQL Server.
While many EDW projects deliver valuable results from historical data, in the case of Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, the requirements were more demanding with an initial goal that the EDW data being analyzed be no more than one day old, and a long term goal of “near real time”.
While the conceptual solution to these issues was obvious, namely, to incrementally update the SQL Server database with only the changes that occurred to the QCPR database following the initial build of the Data Warehouse, achieving this proved to be a challenge entailing a global search for possible solutions.
In January 2014, Gillette discovered CAV Systems Ltd and an intensive dialogue took place resulting in an onsite visit by CAV Systems’ IT professionals to Gillette’s facilities in St. Paul, MN at the end of March 2014. Today, six months later, Gillette’s Enterprise Data Warehouse initiative is on track and delivering valuable insights into the organization’s operations.
In the words of Tim Getsay, Vice President of Information Systems at Gillette, “CAV Systems’ expertise and mastery of bridging the worlds of MUMPS/Caché and relational databases was apparent from the very first day of their onsite visit in St. Paul”.
