Live demo of CDISC Express®, our free CDISC SDTM mapping tool

Abstract

CDISC SDTM data is the standard format requested by the FDA for clinical trial data submission. SAS® is often used as an ETL tool to manually convert SAS extracts from a clinical database to SDTM format. While this is a reasonable approach, it can quickly become tedious, error-prone, and time-consuming.

We developed a SAS- SDTM conversion tool: CDISC Express. All mapping definitions and rules written in Excel are then dynamically converted into a SAS program that automatically performs the SDTM transformation and validation through a series of SASmacros. CDISC Express also comes with a SAS-based validation tool for SDTM data sets.

CDISC Express framework is highly extensible and relies on a function library of SASmacros for mapping standard data elements. Additionally, this SAS application supports natively CDISC controlled terminology, define.xml generation and an advanced lab data module. Because CDISC Express source code is freely available, well-documented and easily understandable, it may be easily modified by any SAS programmer to fit his company SAS infrastructure.

This presentation will provide SAS programmers with an introduction to CDISC Express, and how the SAS programs and configuration files are organized.
