Federal Health IT (FHIT) Innovation Event & Awards
This event will be unlike any typical Federal government event. Held at 1776 DC, the premier startup incubator in DC, the first part of this event include a panel featuring three of the real leaders driving innovation across the Federal Health Space, with perspective from Military Health and VA to HHS. The second part of the evening will celebrate many of the most innovative programs and initiatives happening across the Federal Health IT (FHIT) space today as the FHIT Innovation awards are handed out. Deep Dive on Enterprise Health Management Platform (eHMP)
Carl Gray, Project Manager at ASM Research, will note how the eHMP project within the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology (VistA) Evolution program will introduce expanded capabilities and modernize existing features of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This platform includes VistA Exchange, the eHMP Clinical Practice Environment (CPE), and particular clinical knowledge enrichment and decision support services.

OSEHRA Software Quality Certification Webinar
Mike Henderson, the OSEHRA Director of Open Source Product Management, will discuss how OSEHRA Certification raises the profile of code submissions, identifies them as priorities for OSEHRA intake, and ensures they are functional and suitable for inclusion. Wentz to Speak at OSEHRA's January Open Source Innovation Webinar
Robert Wentz, CEO of Oroville Hospital in Northern California, will discuss the financial factors that led the regional hospital to self-implement the open soruce VistA EHR, and and why every regional hospital in the United States should do the same thing. VistA was originally developed by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and it is used by more than 1,800 VA medical facilities.

30th VistA Community Meeting
The VistA community is holding its 30th VistA Community Meeting at the UC Davis Sacramento Campus January 16-18. The meeting is going to be addressed by a wide range of speakers, from current and former top officials of the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Indian Health Service (IHS), to leading innovators for the Vista and RPMS EHRs. The goal of these meetings is to create a collaborative conference where VistA Community can network and collaborate, i.e., to share ideas and work, with the objective of moving VistA & the VistA community forward. UC Davis School of Medicine, is providing the facilities for the meeting.

HANDI Health Apps Fall 2014

2014 International Open Access Week
The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) has announced that the theme for this year's International Open Access Week is "Generation Open". The theme will highlight the importance of students and early career researchers as advocates for change in the short-term, through institutional and governmental policy, and as the future of the Academy upon whom the ultimate success of the Open Access movement depends. The theme will also explore how changes in scholarly publishing affect scholars and researchers at different stages of their careers.

FOSS4G 2014
The annual FOSS4G conference is the largest global gathering focused on open source geospatial software. FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and observers from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions, and cooperation, FOSS4G participants create effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, and protocols.

LibreOffice Conference 2014
The LibreOffice Conference is the annual gathering of the worldwide LibreOffice Community and interested developers, marketers, adopters, end-users and supporters. This year, the LibreOffice Conference will be held in Bern, Switzerland, on September 02 - 05, 2014, at the Bern University. Our program reflects the broad engagement and diversity of the community: it includes talks and workshops from various areas of the project. We currently work on the program and put it online as soon as possible.
The LibreOffice Conference 2014 will be jointly organized by the Document Foundation (TDF), the Swiss Open Systems User Group, and the Research Center for Digital Sustainability of the Institute of Information Systems at the University of Bern and hosted by the University of Bern.

IP3 Launch: an introduction to Pistoia Alliance innovation
The Pistoia Alliance has launched its new online Interactive Project Portfolio Platform (IP3) in order to encourage the life science research community to generate and share new, innovative ideas. This will drive the creation of novel, collaborative solutions that lower the barriers to innovation in life science R&D.
This webinar will give users an overview of how to access IP3, browse existing project ideas, submit new ideas, and contribute to the discussion about their development.
