ClinCapture 2.0 Official Launch Event
Clinovo is officially launching ClinCapture 2.0 with a 1-hour online webinar on May 23rd, 2014, followed by a series of industry conferences in June. Ibáñez to Discuss Teaching the RDF Framework for use in Medical Data Sharing During vxJourney Program
Luis Ibáñez, one of the best known advocates of open source solutions in healthcare will be interviewed Wednesday, May 14, by Fabian Lopez in the popular vxJourney weekly webinar. Ibanez will be discussing the importance of teaching the Resource Description Framework (RDF) in college courses. RDF is a framework that facilitates the consistent representation of data and is a core element of what is called the Semantic Web. It's use in the context of sharing medical information is highly relevant for personal EHRs, health care exchanges, patient registries, and public health research.

tranSMART Foundation To Present Its Open-Source Knowledge Management Platform At Bio-IT World Conference & Expo

Red Hat Summit 2014
Red Hat will hold its 10th annual Red Hat Summit at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from April 14-17, 2014. The Red Hat Summit brings together thought leaders and executives from across the technology industry to participate in keynotes and sessions on community, innovation, collaboration and customer success. Sixth Hackathon On Rare Diseases - SUNY Albany April 12th
The Sixth Hackathon for Rare Diseases will take place on Saturday April 12th at the State University of New York at Albany. This is a follow up of the Fifth Hackathon for Rare Diseases that took place on February 22nd. The goal of the Hackathon is to continue implementing the prototype of a web-based platform for facilitating the information management of members of the Rare Diseases community. A first pass at the prototype is currently available here in Github, under the Apache 2.0 License.

Improving Equity Through Health IT In The US And Internationally
The issue of rising income inequity is one of global concern. Health researchers have shown low-income countries contribute 56% of global disease burden, but account for only 2% of global expenditure on health (Mathers, 2006). In addition, there is great inequity within most countries. Among adults in the US with chronic conditions, 45% of those with below-average incomes reported going without needed care because of costs, compared with just 4% in the Netherlands (Davis, 2010).
