College Students Tackle PTSD at First DC Hackathon
More than 50 college students from across the world gathered this previous weekend at HackDC 2015, the first Hackathon dedicated to crowdsourcing innovative ways to address the serious problem of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by creating mobile applications and solutions. The event, which started on Friday, went through Sunday afternoon. Held at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center in the Annandale Campus of the Northern Virginia Community Colleges (NVCC), HackDC 2015 provided the participants with access to food, sleeping facilities, and showers so that they could work straight through the weekend.

Hacking PTSD-Major Hackathon to take Place Sept. 25-27 in DC
Longview International Technology Solutions has organized a 36-hour hackathon that will take place starting on September 25th by inviting some of the country’s most talented computer science students (undergraduate through postgraduate) along with several corporate teams, to focus their imagination and skills on creating mobile solutions for veterans with PTSD. Students are coming from 59 schools, 18 states, and 4 countries. The event will be held near Washington DC in Annandale, Virginia, at the local campus of the Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC). It will take place at the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center, part of the NOVA Annandale campus. The address is 8333 Little River Turnpike (more details at www.hackdc.com).

Is the Grace Hopper Open Source Day 2015 a Turning Point for Open Health and Humanitarian Open Source Projects?
One of the most significant efforts to help open health and humanitarian open source apps seen to date will be taking place tomorrow in Houston, Texas. The event is the Open Source Day 2015, part of the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC) a conference designed to bring the research and career interests of women in computing to the forefront. The full-day Code-A-Thon is focused on “coding for humanitarian causes in a dynamic, collaborative environment.” This day will give “women from around the world the chance to learn how to contribute to the open source community, regardless of their skill or experience level.”
