Simon Hartley is leading the US introduction of the altOS mobile security platform with a startup company, CIS Mobile, working with early adopters in the Intelligence, Department of Defense (DoD), and Federal Civilian communities. He previously worked with Apple and Samsung in hardening their platforms to meet the needs of the U.S. Government marketplace. He is an advisor and investor in a number of cybersecurity startups in the Washington, DC area.
His passion is solving problems for people, processes, and organizations through innovative use of technology. He did this at first within Fortune 100 companies and later from nimbler and faster moving startups. End customers in the U.S. government have included the DoD and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). In the private sector he has worked with Morgan Stanley and PayPal (finance vertical), Epic Systems and ManorCare (healthcare vertical), Bosch and Lear (transport vertical) and Chevron and EDF (energy vertical).
Previously to CIS, Simon was VP Business Development and Co-Founder of the cybersecurity Internet of Things (IoT) startup RunSafe Security, VP Sales & Marketing at the cybersecurity mobile startup Kaprica Security (sold to Samsung), and Director Worldwide Sales & Marketing re-starting Thursby Software (sold to Identiv) in secure mobility.
Simon began his career in nuclear software engineering between England and France. He then held executive roles at HP, Red Hat, and Capgemini. Simon holds an MBA from the University of Maryland Smith Business School, MS in Law & Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland Carey Law School, a BSc (Honors) in Physics from the University of Manchester, England, and a number of cybersecurity and privacy certifications, including CISSP, CIPP, and CEH.
Simon's early physics training has proved invaluable since it encourages a systems point of view, strengthens quantitative reasoning, and end-to-end perspective rather than the blinkered views that can arise when problems are considered from just one angle or from the lens of a specialty area.
