Pistoia Alliance Launches New Map of Alliances project

Press Release | Pistoia Alliance | May 20, 2015

Map of Alliances will catalogue the complex world of life science collaborations

Wilmington, De (PRWEB) May 20, 2015--The Pistoia Alliance, a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science organizations that work together to lower barriers to innovation in R&D, has started a new project called Map of Alliances. The Map of Alliances project will catalogue the various life sciences consortia, partnerships, foundations and alliances in the life sciences sector and investigate how these collaborative efforts form an interconnected web of partnerships.

The Map of Alliances project will see the Pistoia Alliance develop a comprehensive picture of how all these alliances, including those that involve commercial, not for profit and academic partners, are connected across the life sciences sector. Importantly the project will also map the function of each alliance and identify their connections, similarities, and differences.

The landscape of alliances in the life sciences world is complex, with many collaborative groups existing that may have overlapping aims or share a significant proportion of their membership. The Pistoia Alliance values a thorough understanding of this interconnected web of collaborations as essential for efficient and productive life science research.

To start the project, the Pistoia Alliance is running a preliminary survey of the collaboration landscape in order to gain a basic understanding of what alliances exist and who is involved in each one. The survey can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/62VVR2M

Richard Holland, Executive Director Operations at the Pistoia Alliance commented: “The life sciences sector is incredibly vibrant, meaning that there is a host of collaborative efforts involving life sciences R&D organizations. However, these efforts can sometimes overlap, so the Map of Alliances is an attempt to formally describe the collaboration landscape and work out exactly where we all fit together.”

The launch of the Map of Alliances project builds on the success of the Pistoia Alliance’s other ongoing projects, HELM (Hierarchical Editing Language for Macromolecules) and the CSCS Expert Community (Controlled Substances Compliance Services), both of which have seen widespread adoption of their outputs throughout the life sciences sector. In addition to these successful projects, the Alliance has also recently launched an Ontologies Mapping project.

About the Pistoia Alliance

The Pistoia Alliance is a global, not-for-profit alliance of life science companies, vendors, publishers, and academic groups that work together to lower barriers to innovation in R&D. Our projects transform R&D innovation through pre-competitive collaboration. We bring together the key constituents to identify the root causes that lead to R&D inefficiencies. We develop best practices and technology pilots to overcome common obstacles. Our members collaborate as equals on open projects that generate significant value for the worldwide life sciences community.
