Offers a Repository of Resources Designed to Accelerate Connections to Health Information Exchanges (HIE)

Rockville, MD (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Pronoia Health and AEGIS.net(AEGIS) are proud to announce the recent launch of the Open Library of Health Information Exchange (OLHIE). OLHIE is an online ecosystem designed to accelerate connections to Health Information Exchanges (HIE) by facilitating the reuse of interfaces and other assets, particularly those developed with federal or state funding. Created by Pronoia Health and hosted at the AEGIS Data Center, OLHIE allows “Authors” of HIE-related assets to share their work and provide “Consumers” with real-world resources to inform their work. OLHIE assets include interface code and related documents (requirements, templates, data sets, technical and user documentation, training materials, etc.), RFPs and contract language, policies, and source code created for connecting EHRs, laboratories, pharmacies, public health and other health entities with various types of health information infrastructure.

Pronoia Health chose AEGIS as an industry leader in the testing of interoperability between Health Information Technology (HIT) systems and HIEs. Going forward, Pronoia Health anticipates using the AEGIS Developers Integration Lab (DIL) in testing each new or enhanced interface submission. The DIL is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Testing as a Service (TaaS), open source testing solution for information sharing, exchange gateway, interoperability, and compatibility testing.

OLHIE is an approved Charter Project by the Open Health Tools (OHT) Board of Stewards. Charter Projects cover the life cycle of EHRs in the broadest sense including standards, architectures, documentation and training, legacy systems etc. Information, including source code, project descriptions, blogs and forums for each project can be accessed from the project repository home page. These projects operate under commercial quality IP and business controls, and are actively supported by OHT staff. In addition, they must conform to the OHT Software Development Process and Policy. The technical goal of OHT is to assemble and/or develop a comprehensive harmonized tool suite to enable the definition, development and deployment of interoperable Electronic Health Records. The complexity of both modern IT platforms and the healthcare domain means that first class tools are an absolute necessity.

Launched on December 20, 2013, OLHIE promotes reuse, cooperation, and learning in order to reduce the cost of building and operating HIE, while increasing the potential for near-term interoperability. OLHIE also serves as a peer-promoted resource for people and organizations that are new to HIE or particular aspects of HIE such as governance, security, or sustainability. The groundwork for OLHIE supports the ability for Readers to categorize, “like”, and write reviews for “books” contained in the Library.

OLHIE was funded by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and managed by its contractor RTI International. It was also funded in part by the State of California to develop a stable 1.0 release that ensured California’s assets would be easily accessible, persistent, and properly managed. A long-time supporter of OLHIE, California contributed all of their health assets into the repository.
