On November 30--December 1, researchers, medical practitioners and ICT personnel will gather in Nairobi, Kenya, to attend the 2011 AfriHealth conference and “share information on the developments in the use of ICT to improve health care in Africa." The program outline states:

The theme for AfriHealth 2011 questions the extent of current research and development using ICT technology and the amount of effort being made to progress ICT developments in the African Healthcare arena. We believe that we can do much more than is presently being done for Healthcare. The Conference, in its fourth year, will be the meeting point for all healthcare participants to share ideas, showcase developments, and develop action plans to speed up improvements in the industry.

The theme of the conference will be “Consolidating the gains of technological innovation through effective management.” Several presentations at the conference will discuss the ramifications of using open source methods and software to improve current healthcare practice and efficiency.

Below is a short list of topics that will be presented at the conference:

  • Benchmarking the performance of hospitals and hospital IT adoption  (Angela Dunbar, Member of HIMSS Europe Governing Council & eHealth Adviser, Spain)
