The Misys OSS Team has recently received a series of major open sourcre awards. These incude the ‘best use of open source technology’ in healthcare awarded by The Guardian at SMART Healthcare conferece, and most recently at the November EHI LIVE 2011 show in Birmingham (UK). Tim Elwell, leader of the MOSS team, will discuss the IHE project components available on the OHT Forge and how they are assembled to build a health information exchange (HIE). Elwell and his team will also provide a live demonstration of their integrated community portal that builds a dynamic longitudinal health record.

Following the MOSS Team presentation, Peter Groen, Contributing Editor of Open Health News, will provide a guest perspective regarding Medical Informatics 20/20. Groen will discuss the establishment of the Health IT Sharing Program at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in the late 90's, with a snapshot of the state of Open Health IT and sharing over the past decade. Groen will provide an overview of impressive number and diversity of high quality public domain or open source health IT solutions now available. Groen maintains that a new industry is emerging that is creating companies and jobs for the future. He will also touch on the future and opportunities for the Open Health community.
