Tolven’s progress would not

Tolven’s progress would not be possible without support from our partners who develop and implement a variety of solutions on the Tolven platform. Developers in partner organizations have collaborated to augment the Tolven open source code line either directly or through supplying insights regarding needed extensions of the code. The Tolven 2.1 code release included a major set of functionality that was required to satisfy the Meaningful Use certification requirements in the United States. Because of Tolven’s international reach, Tolven developed the required plug ins so that they meet a variety of needs for users outside of the United States as well for users in the US.

Tolven’s determination to develop a variety of applications on the same infrastructure has leveraged the concept that all electronic health record applications, in order to be interoperable, have to have essential elements of Health Information Exchange. Thus, the Tolven infrastructure has continued to be used for HIE activities in several countries. These various “personalities” of expression of the Tolven code would not have been possible without the employment of the Tolven account mechanisms as well as the effective combination of the “nucleotide bases” of the Tolven DNA: documents, placeholders, lists, and rules. Adherence to the HL7 Reference Information Model with bindings to standard vocabularies and standard data types contributes to the interoperability that is essential for the sorts of HIE value-added activities that depend on a robust analytical data base.
