Wanted - Contributions to a Crowdmap of SMS-based Solutions for the Social Good

A recent article in the UK newspaper The Guardian entitled "Activate 2011: Mobiles look set to play a big role in Africa's development" (June, 2011) noted that "...there are so many pilot projects around the use of mobiles that there is a danger of duplication and reinventing the wheel.  One suggestion [is] that a mapping exercise [is] needed to plot what is happening, where, and with what results..."  In response, I have created the SMS in Action Crowdmap intended to map on-going and pilot SMS-based programs and projects underway around the world that are contributing to the social good.  This free map is built using the Ushahidi Crowdmap platform which will allow anyone to post a report about their own SMS-based deployment. To date, there are 76 separate SMS-based programs in 35 countries registered on the map, including a number built upon the FrontlineSMS platform...
