Micro Health Center in India to use OpenEMR
ZH Healthcare will assist HP India in implementing cloud enabled healthcare infrastructure to bring healthcare, health education, and medicine to rural and remote locations in India.
(PRWEB) July 16, 2012--Routine health care is very challenging in the many rural villages of India. ZH Healthcare will assist Hewlett Packard India in developing a Micro Health Centre (µHC) that will mitigate ground-level issues related to the delivery of healthcare to villages in India and in other economies that are challenged by the inadequacy of health infrastructure. The cloud-enabled infrastructure of the Micro Health Centre provides access to specialist medical consultation at affordable cost and provides support for disease surveillance by tracking disease patterns and risk factors. The µHC will increase the reach of healthcare and will lead to improved communications between healthcare providers separated by distance through tele-consultation and video conferencing. It will address basic health issues and deliver preventive healthcare such as immunization to the rural masses. It can act as a tool for public awareness and provide accurate reporting of health indicators of the community. The µHC is a rapidly deployable infrastructure; and is also appropriate to support disaster relief and management operations.
The µHC will utilize the cloud-based implementation of the electronic medical records system OpenEMR. OpenEMR is a free and open source electronic health records application consisting of medical practice management, electronic medical records, prescription writing, and medical billing. In a recent article discussing the µHC project, HP India officials have reported that using the cloud enabled µHC infrastructure can help solve some of the most pressing issues facing the health care industry today such as dismal quality of health care provided, shortage of drugs, equipment, trained personnel and specialist medical care in remote areas. Using cloud technology in healthcare can aid in disease surveillance by tracking disease patterns and risk factors and disaster management.
ZH Healthcare, one of only a few recognized OpenEMR Certified Contributors, will provide OpenEMR services and support to the µHC project. ZH Healthcare has offices in McLean, VA and Cochin, India and will work with the µHC project team to configure and customize the OpenEMR systems for use. “We are pleased to be working with HP India on such an tremendous project” says Shameem C. Hameed, Chairman of ZH Healthcare. “This is the perfect match between non-governmental organizations (NGO) and open source communities like OpenEMR to address health issues faced by rural and underserved populations, which is stated purpose of OEMR and the OpenEMR system.” OEMR is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization formed to ensure that all people, regardless of race, socioeconomic status or geographic location, have access to high-quality medical care through the donation of free, open source medical software and service relating to that software.
