The East Hawai‘i Region of the Hawai‘i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) has entered into a data sharing agreement with the Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (Hawai‘i HIE). The cooperation will improve care access for about 10,000 in East Hawai’i.

Specialists are in short supply on Hawai’i Island, and patients often travel to Maui or Oahu to receive care. These specialists, however, do not always have access to the patients’ medical records, which can cause setbacks in diagnoses and treatment, as well as wasting money. By linking the health networks through a secure, electronic exchange system, patients will receive better care healthcare costs can be reduced.
