OSEHRA 2012: Robert Wentz Wows Audience At EHR Summit
Robert Wentz, CEO and president of Oroville Hospital, spoke about the hospital’s success in implementing open-source electronic health records at a summit held outside of Washington, D.C., on Oct. 17 and 18. Wentz (pictured) spoke to a packed house during the keynote opening panel of the first-ever Open Source EHR Summit in National Harbor, Md., which was hosted by the Open Source Electronic Health Records Agent organization. Oroville Hospital was the first hospital in the nation to self-implement the open-source system, using VistA (Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture) to digitize its patient records, according to an Oroville Hospital press release...

OSEHRA 2013: VA CIO Stephen Warren Lays out Open Source Strategy at the VA During Summit
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is launching a series of an initiative to fully embrace and leverage its open source strategy, according to Stephen Warren, the Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO). Warren, who gave the keynote presentation at the 2nd Annual OSEHRA Summit, in Behesda, Maryland, laid out in great detail the steps the VA is taking. These include fully embracing OSEHRA as the open source code repository, developing intake mechanisms so the VA can bring VistA enhancements from the private sector into the VA, following recommendations made by the iEHR team to standardize all core VistA modules, migrating all servers to Linux, and standardizing all development on open source tools. OSEHRA 2015: VA Secretary Robert A. McDonald to Keynote Open Source EHR Summit
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) is pleased to announce that the Honorable Robert A. McDonald, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, will serve as the keynote speaker for its fourth annual summit, entitled Community-Powered Healthcare IT Solutions. Secretary McDonald will speak on the morning of July 30 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. “We are honored to have Secretary McDonald address our community,” said LTG (ret.) James B. Peake, M.D., Chairman of the OSEHRA Board of Directors and former U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs. “OSEHRA was established by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 2011 to foster innovation and serve as a hub of open source EHR activity. As we approach our fourth anniversary, the VA and the entire open source community are seeing the fruits of that initiative. We are pleased to welcome the Secretary, and are grateful for VA’s continued support of open source.”

OSEHRA 2016: Call for Abstract Submissions for Open Source Conference
OSEHRA will be holding its annual Summit June 27 through June 29 in Bethesda, Maryland. Over the past several years the OSEHRA Summit has become the leading confernce for the VistA community as well as the Open HealthIT community. This year the conference will be expanding with a half-day focused on Open Health IT presentations. The 2016 OSEHRA Open Source Summit Program Committee invites abstract submissions for presentations, roundtables, and posters by March 8, 2016.

OSEHRA 2016: Former VA CIO Roger Baker Joins Board of Open Source Organization
The Open Source Electronic Health Record Alliance (OSEHRA) announced today that Roger Baker, former Assistant Secretary and Chief Information Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans of Affairs...joined the OSEHRA Board of Directors. Baker, a visionary in the health IT community and long-time supporter of OSEHRA, will begin his three-year term in October. Baker was elected to the Government Directorship on the Board of Directors by the OSEHRA Community. “It is an honor to serve in this capacity,” said Baker. “I am excited to join such a forward-thinking organization where I will continue to dedicate my efforts to the promotion and widespread adoption of open source.”

OSEHRA 2017: Microsoft, OpenStack, IBM Support VistA in the Cloud
This year’s OSEHRA 2017 Open Source Summit proved to be another major milestone in the transition from locked-in vendor-controlled health information technology to an open solutions approach. One of the major news stories at the summit was the decision by Microsoft to join OSEHRA and collaborate with the Open Health community. Another major presentation was that of Martin Rice, Director of the Division of State System for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Clyneice Chaney, Principal Systems Engineer. In their presentation (video* and PowerPoint*), Rice and Chaney described how CMS is transitioning to an open/modular approach to State Medicaid IT systems.

OSEHRA 2017: Open Source Becomes Mainstream in the Healthcare Industry
One of the most exciting things about the OSEHRA 2017 Open Source Summit was to see so many leading edge open source health IT solutions, and to hear reports of the major strides they are making around the world. Our very own Editor-in-Chief, Roger A. Maduro gave a presentation on the state of open health IT. The room was absolutely packed, with standing room only. Maduro started his presentation by pointing out that during the recent HIMSS17 conference in Orlando, Florida, more than half of of the 300 sessions of the conference were based on open source solutions such as FHIR, Blockchain, Interoperability and the open/modular IT strategy being followed by Medicaid.

OSEHRA 2018 - Most Diverse Open Source EHR Summit to Date

OSEHRA 2018 Leadership Award Recipients Recognized
OSEHRA recently announced this year’s 2018 Leadership Award recipients during our 7th Annual Open Source Summit. The OSEHRA community chose to honor four distinguished individuals based on their outstanding achievements in health information technology and contributions to innovative health care. Awardees were selected via a community nomination and election process. We would like to extend a thank you to the 2018 Awards Committee for its due diligence and commitment to the community. OSEHRA 2018: Perspecta Sponsors Open Source EHR Summit
OSEHRA is delighted to welcome Perspecta as the Conference Sponsor for our 7th Annual Open Source Summit, to be held this July 18 – 20, 2018. Officially launched less than a week ago on June 1st, Perspecta was formed through a merger of the U.S. Public Sector Business of DXC Technology with Vencore Holding Corporation and KeyPoint Government Solutions. Those of you who follow the industry know that DXC Technology was the result of a massive merger of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) and HP Enterprise Services (which also included EDS).
